Antigua's main square, the Plaza Mayor, and sutrounding buildings.
First, the Palacio de los Capitanes. It was late in the day and the doors were closed, so I couldn't go inside. I believe it now contains a couple of museums and a concert hall.
On the east side of the Plaza Mayor is a cathedral. The back portion was destroyed in the earthquake of 1776, however the facade is restored and the front portion of the cathedral is still in use.
Both tourists and locals enjoy relaxing in the park.
On the north side is the municipal building. I saw people on the balcony, so I wandered over to have a look.
The porch on the lower level is a great place for people watching. Shady and cool with a view of the park and Volcán de Agua.
The upper level is even more lovely, and you can see Volcan de agua, and on an especially clear day you can get a small glimpse of the other two volcanoes as well, toward the southwest.
While walking home, as I passed by the nearby Church the bells began to ring. The photo is a little dark, however you can see in the right-hand Tower is a real person pulling on the ropes of the bells.
