Got back from Xi'an last night around midnight. Train trip was dreadful but it was worth it to see the Terracotta Warriors, they will get their own entry later.
Monster kitten is fine, but I was horrified to find that he had run out of water. I gave him some immediately and he drank until his tummy stuck out like a drum. Poor little guy. Then he proceeded to attack my hands and feet until the wee hours because he was really keyed up, but today he is letting me pet him more than previously and purring like mad, so I rather like that change.
Today was a special school event to celebrate (six months belatedly) the opening of the branch school I work in, so I was up early and off to school, and then once I got home I spent the evening preparing tomorrow's lessons.
No time to look at trip pictures yet, but I (theoretically) have Monday and Tuesday off this week, so perhaps I can do it then.

Traveling again
This will be the last time I have more than 2 days off in a row for the duration of my contract (as far as I know) so I am leaving today to travel to Xi'an, where the famous tomb with the Teracotta Warriors is. This is one of two "musts" in China for me, the other being the Great Wall.
I leave this afternoon at 12:50 and arrive tomorrow morning at 07:40. Unfortunately I was not able to get a bunk on the way there, so it will feel like a long trip. I will come home on Friday night, total three and a half days and nights, one and a half spent in travel. On the way home I have a bunk, thank goodness.

Day Off
Oh my goodness, I had a whole day off today. It was sooooooo nice. I talked with a friend, played with my kitten, read a novel, and generally decompressed.
This evening I did muster the oomph to go out to the store and buy a new rice cooker, since my old one seems to be slowly dying (half cooked rice is not very tasty). Then when I got home I worked on a lesson for Monday.
Tomorrow I have the day off too, but have promised to go "shopping" with a new Chinese friend who is so gung-ho that I have a feeling it will end up being an all day excursion. She is the mother of one of my first-graders, and she is trying very hard to learn English to support her daughter's efforts. She has been very kind to me and to the other foreign teacher at my school, and I am happy to have a Chinese friend who is not a co-worker.
