Rio de Janeiro, Day 3, Tour - Santa Teresa

23 December 2011

Driving through the neighborhood of Santa Teresa, one of the most famous neighborhoods in Rio.

Some views of the hillside favela with the city in the background.

Striking contrast between the old and the modern.

A famous attraction of Santa Teresa was its streetcars, which were discontinued last year because there was a terribleaccident due to lack of maintenance of the trains.

Santa Teresa is famous as an artist quarter and is said to be a rather "Bohemian" neighborhood.

A street that isn't a street... yep, those are stairs.
Hard to see here, but there was a man coming up the "street" carrying a heavy propane container.
 The now-defunct streetcar rails.
